If I looked cool posing with a nice plaid shirt, I'd post a picture right here.

No this is not a post about “how to blog,” that’s just the name of the seminar given by Robert Wilonsky that I attended yesterday at The Dallas Morning News. Actually, it was just called “blogging.” I’m, just trying to make it a little sexier, taking the name of a blog post handed out, “How to Blog,” by Rob Beschizza, managing editor of Boing Boing

“Blogging is the best part of the job,” Wilonsky told the group. But making the time to blog while doing everything else we’re expected to do in our “real job” may be the first obstacle. Solution: Make blogging your life, not just part of it.

That point may have finally struck the right chord on decision-makers — who for starters hired Wilonsky from The Dallas Observer, and have made some important decisions about blogging in the newspaper. His gospel is uncomplicated and direct, “we’re all going to be in the same place, in the same conversation,” engaging readers and discussing content, building relationships. Nothing out of the ordinary, that’s what we’ve been doing all along. Except now we’re not just flat-footing it to the people, we’re in constant touch with them, or supposed to be, anyway — it’s 2012, you know?

Exciting stuff, even if it doesn’t apply to my situation. Not yet, anyway. This chat was a nice kick in the pants.
